Dare to Dream BIG

I want to share my story about my beloved choir, Diponegoro University Choir (PSM Undip) when we went to Vietnam, participated on 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition, March 15-20, 2011.

That’s our 1st international competition. My friends and I were very excited…

Many years ago, we never imagined that we can participate in international event. But, we didn’t give up! We knew that we didn’t have much money and we were not a choir with best technique. But, we always sing happily and sing from heart for Him, who gave our life.

Our friendship just like a great family...

There was many challenge during we prepared for join the competition. We must practice hard and got a lot of money to paid accommodation fee, flight, etc…

“Practice make perfect”, I exactly agree with this quote… So, everyday we practice...

To collect the money, we walked around Pahlawan Street Semarang and asked help from people there to give a contribution, while we sing, of course. We also sold a secondhand cloth in Simpanglima every Sunday morning. Another ways, we got money from university’s job, wedding job, donator, and everything that’ll make money. Not easy, but we trust we can do it!

So, we went to Vietnam and participated in 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition, take place in Hoi An City. After flight Jakarta – Ho Chi Minh by plane, we reached Ho Chi Minh – Hoi An by bus, over 22 hours, because we didn’t have money to go there by plane. But we really enjoyed our journey in the bus.

At the competition, we take part in 4 categories: Mixed choir, Sacra, Female Choir, and Folklore. Big thanks to God, we got 3 gold medals on Mixed Choir, Female, and Folklore, and 1 silver medal on Sacra. We also were being a Champion in two categories: Mixed Choir and Female Choir. And we got a “Grand Champion” or Champion of Champions in that competition. Just like a dream…

We were very proud and happy…. Our entire struggle was worthed…

We ate egg everyday, we stayed in economy hotel, but we always on fire! :D

We cannot take part in closing ceremony, because we must back to Ho Chi Minh by bus (again…) It doesn’t matter, we sung our national song: INDONESIA RAYA on restaurant… we cried and hugged each other… was so happy and proud…

Like a coin with 2 sides… In other side, we were happy about our championship… but, in another side we were very sad about our friend, Febri, who laid in Hospital, he got a pneumonia… :’(
He not yet goes back to Indonesia ‘till now… Hope his health is getting better…

I want to say thank you to our coach, Mr.Setyo Watjono… our father… You’re the best, daddy! We are nothing without you… We love you Bapaaaakkk……… x)

Many thanks to Mr.Bagus and Mr.Tjotjok… our great founder…

As long as we participated on this competition in Hoi An, Mr.Nyoman, a staff from Embassy of Republic Indonesia in Hanoi attended us. Many thanks Mr.Nyoman, for your help and attention for us…

And thanks to Ms. Suzan, a staff from KJRI Ho Chi Minh City… Big thanks Ms. Suzan, you always be for us. Went to train station, found bus, and bought meals for us… I remember the way you spoke with me on telephone in the midnight… talked about transportation tomorrow… it makes me really confuse… hahaha…

Finally, thanks to all of you, for your help and support… material and immaterial… To Our University (Undip), Drg.Grace (Merby), Mr.Marwan E, Mr.Lukdy, our parents… Thank you so much… God bless you all…

Everything is great,
Everything is fun,
Everything is beautiful,

I’m happy and proud to be a part in Diponegoro University Choir’s Family…
